Let’s talk about your project?
Creating New Ideas
We know it’s important to link what we do with why we do it, so we’ve said that our purpose is to build what matters so that future generations can do well.
We are working hard to meet the urgent need for infrastructure that is both strong and long-lasting.
With a strong commitment to sustainability, which means helping our clients meet their ambitious environmental goals and being responsible in every part of our business, we want to both make positive change happen and start it.
Together with our partners and clients, we’re building thriving communities and helping the economy move away from carbon.

Taking care of our emissions of greenhouse gases
Globe
Upland Contracting set a goal in April 2021 to reach net-zero (scopes 1, 2, and 3) by 2050, with an initial interim goal to reduce direct CO2 emissions (scopes 1 and 2) by 30% from 2020 to 2030.
In 2021, Upland Contracting was able to cut its CO2 emissions by 15% compared to the previous year.
Focus Areas for Sustainability
Creating New Ideas
Upland Contracting thinks of innovation as more than just using the latest technology.
Collaboration with partners and suppliers is also a part of innovation. This means sharing ideas, resources, and opportunities to speed up the adoption of sustainable practices and make positive changes together.
People and their places
In addition to meeting high standards for sustainability and operating in a responsible way, we also take steps to help people and communities share in the benefits and opportunities that come from our work.
Operationalizing Sustainability
Upland Contracting is always looking for ways to reduce emissions and make our day-to-day work more sustainable. We do this by using zero-emissions equipment and improving our operating procedures.
Government and morals
We often update our policies and procedures to make sure we’re keeping up with best practices in areas like diversity and fighting corruption. We also work closely with our teams and suppliers to make sure that everyone involved with Upland Contracting is ready to reach high levels of both performance and accountability.
Our Stakeholders
In addition to this way of figuring out what’s important, we keep in touch with our stakeholder groups in a variety of ways, such as through staff surveys, focus groups, and quarterly calls with shareholders to talk about earnings.
Our Stakeholder Engagement Policy continues to be the guide for how we work with investors.
On page 14 of our 2020 Sustainability Report, you can learn more about how we work with each of our stakeholder groups.
Global Goals and Upland Contracting
Sustainable Development Goals Logo of the United Nations
The United Nations has come up with 17 Sustainable Development Goals to help the world work toward sustainable development (SDGs).
Due to the complexity of today’s social, economic, and environmental problems, everyone in society, including governments, nonprofits, businesses, and civil society organisations, has an important role to play in achieving these goals.
Upland Contracting takes seriously its responsibility to help make the future more stable and prosperous.
We keep track of our contributions to the six SDGs and 11 targets where we think we can have the most impact because of how we work and what our organization’s priorities are.
People and their places
Upland Contracting helps people and places do well.
We do this both by what we build, which is infrastructure that helps the economy grow and makes life better, and by how we act as an employer and member of the community.
Operationalizing Sustainability
Over the past few years, we’ve put in place an all-encompassing programme to measure and lower our GHG emissions. This programme affects every part of our work.
On a smaller scale, we’ve made a number of low-tech process changes that have led to small gains that have added up over time.
Government and morals
Upland Contracting has a history of keeping high governance, ethics, compliance, and risk management standards.
We have done things on our own to improve our performance and accountability in a number of ways, such as by getting anti-corruption training and putting in place new ways to handle risks.
